Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District | Retired
Paul Maplethorpe recently retired from the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District, serving as its Fire Chief/Administrator for over thirty years. During his career in the Round Lake Area, Chief Maplethorpe oversaw the transition of the fire department from a mostly volunteer department to a career department, staffing three fire stations with firefighter/paramedics on a 24/7 basis. Chief Maplethorpe continues to teach in the Fire Science and Emergency Management programs at the College of Lake County where he has served since 1989. His education includes an AAS degree in Fire Science form CLC, a BS degree in Fire Science Services from Southern Illinois University and a MA degree in Management from Webster University.
In retirement, Chief Maplethorpe continues to serve at the local, county, state and national levels coordinating emergency response communications policies, systems and responses. He serves on the Illinois Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue Team as a communications specialist. Chief Maplethorpe is a member of the Fox Lake – Round Lake Area Rotary Club and takes great pride in serving the area neediest kids through the annual George Watson Neediest Kids Party held at Camp Duncan. Chief Maplethorpe continues a decade plus service to the Round Lake Senior High School as a volunteer softball coach.
Chief Maplethorpe resides in Round Lake with his wife Kelly. Together they raised four children through the Round Lake Area Schools.
